It is unfortunate for us that soccer matches are 80 minutes rather than 40 minutes long. We seem to be able to put together one good half but have trouble putting two together. We also don't know whether it will be the first or the second one. Last night the wildcats must have smelled the fear in the timid playing eagles and took advantage of it. In a 10 minute period in the first half they were able to score three unanswered goals - 2 of which should have been routine saves. Getting into a hole of that size against a strong opponent is very hard to crawl out of but the second half was all about our pride. We came out and played much better for the second half. Parker Rackley did his patented 40 yard break away run and buried the ball in the net against a charging Wildcat keeper. This early second half goal gave us a little light and fired us up but it turned out to be too little too late. TJ White made several great saves keeping us in the game until Hanover got an ugly goal with less than two minutes to play. Final score New Hanover 4 Ashley 1. We are now 7-5-1 overall and 3-3 through the first round of the Mideastern Conference.
The JV team lost on a penalty kick by a score of 1-0. They are also 3-3 in the conference and 5-5 overall.
Next game at Hoggard Friday at 5:00....both teams play at 5:00 - JV on "back" field and varsity on "game" field.
