A myriad of turnovers and missed shots by both teams led to a sloppy affair that saw New Hanover finish on top.
After building an 11-5 lead in the first period, Ashley (5-3 overall, 2-1 Mideastern) didn't hit a field goal in the second period as New Hanover (7-1, 2-0) stormed back. The Wildcats used a 14-1 run over the final four-plus minutes of the period to take their first lead of the game. The two teams combined for 34 turnovers in the first half.
The second half flowed better for both squads, but it was an early 8-1 run in the fourth period that helped the Wildcats seal the victory.
Kayleigh Merrell led the way for the Wildcats with 11 points. Ashley got a game-high 16 points from Jada Bacchus.
